PBA Draft 2010, there's too much I in Al-HUSSAINI

For the Top pick of PBA Draft 2010 Air 21 select (drum rolls) Severino Baclao....

PBA fans Noy Baclao was the top pick. Everybody was surprised about it including RABEH AL-HUSSAINI.

His leading the polls, votes for the top pick prior to the PBA Draft 2010. Apparently he wasn't. But what was more surprisingly was the comment made Rabeh about his selection that he was "insulted". First, I thought playing for the PBA was the ultimate goal when you are playing in the NCAA or UAAP so it doesn't matter whether you're a top pick or second round pick. Second will he be in the trading block because playing for a team that embarrasses you doesn't make sense? Third, can he get a deal? Fourth, he was tagged to represent the country to play for Smart Gilas Team and then he declared himself available for the draft. Lastly, he was an UAAP MVP and Finals MVP and he enjoys so much fanfare because people see him play nationwide and that's the key to being a top pick.

I thought he should be happy for his teammate being selected at number one. Cherish cheesy moments right? I thought he could say thank you first the Air 21 for the opportunity and PBA. I thought good sports and competitiveness was being taught in the school. I thought playing basketball was all about the team. And I thought there's too much I in Al-HUSSAINI.

Noy : Are you mad at me?
Rabeh : Hope you'll be a bust...

Watching PBA Finals

I'm rooting for San Miguel Beermen to win the Championship but they're now down 0-2.

via
The sight of Miami head coach Eric Spoelstra at ringside provided some inspiration for the Alaska Aces, particularly on Diamon Simpson.

“I was aware he was around. His presence was truly inspirational,” said the prolific import who turned in another double-double effort in Alaska’s 94-90 victory against San Miguel Beer Sunday that gave the Aces a 2-0 lead in their PBA Fiesta Conference Finals at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Aces showed tremendous poise in face of repeated comebacks by the defending champions, wrapping up the game with steady shooting from the free throw line in the last 77 seconds.

“We didn’t expect this. But we played great basketball,” said Alaska coach Tim Cone

And Simpson led another tremendous effort by the Aces, turning in 29 and 17 rebounds. He fouled out with 29 seconds remaining but not after hitting four straight free throws that put the Aces ahead, 91-88, with 42 second to play.

I really don't know what happened to Gabe Freeman and Dondon Hontiveros - shooting nightmare? Since they lost, I'll post no pictures. :P

The Big Celtic

The Celtics gets older. With the addition of Shaq O'neal, a 15th time All-Star, on Boston line-up, they become much much older. Danny Ainge formula was to surround young Rajon Rondo and Kendrick Perkins with veteran players maybe to guide them.

via
BOSTON, MA - The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed free agent center Shaquille O'Neal. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"It is not every day that you can add a player of Shaquille's caliber to your team," said Danny Ainge, Celtics President of Basketball Operations. "His past experience speaks for itself and we believe that he is a great fit for our roster."

O'Neal, a 7'1" center, posted averages of 12.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and shot 56.6% from the field last season in 53 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The former Louisiana State Tiger is a three-time NBA Finals MVP (2000, 2001, 2002) and former NBA MVP (2000). He has been named to 15 All Star games and also has been named All-Star Game MVP three times. His 15 All-Star appearances are the second most all-time behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's 17. He is a member of four NBA Championship teams (3, Los Angeles Lakers, 2000, 2001, 2002; 1, Miami Heat, 2006). One of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history (he was youngest member of this team, at the age of 24, when it was named in 1996), O'Neal also is one of just three players in NBA history to be named league MVP, All-Star Game MVP and Finals MVP in the same season (1999-2000).

"I am honored to be joining the Celtics," said O'Neal. "I have played against Paul, Ray, Kevin, Rajon, and Jermaine for many years and it will be great to be able to call them my teammates. I cannot wait to get to Boston to get started in pursuit of another championship."

The first overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft by Orlando, O'Neal has posted career averages of 24.1 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. He also has appeared in 214 career playoff games with averages of 24.5 points, 11.7 rebounds and 2.1 blocks. O'Neal is the fifth leading scorer in NBA history (28,255 points) and is 14th in NBA history in total rebounds (12,921).

Whether Jermaine O'neal or Shaquille O'neal will start in replacement of injured Kendrick Perkins, they both provide inside presence.

Boston Shrek and Donkey together again.

Nate Robinson will be back in Boston Uniform. He was important part of the Celtic's run in the playoffs and later in Finals, particularly in game 4, where he and Glen Davis outplayed the Lakers.

via

The Celtics are about to extend their relationship with Nate Robinson, after all.

The team, according to a league source, just reached agreement with their backup point guard on a two-year deal that will pay him approximately $4 million per season.

Agent Aaron Goodwin, who had told the Herald early in the week that a deal could be reached by the end of the week, turned out to be quite the sage. Agreement came after a brief slowdown in talks on Thursday.

Robinson, according to Goodwin, had made an unspecified concession, and the guard was in the process of waiting for the Celtics to make a concession of their own.

By this morning, both sides were satisfied. The Celtics, with many other needs to fill with minimum contracts, no longer have to list point guard among those needs.

If I may add Mr. Ainge should really add some depth on the bench. Someone who can play along with the Big three and learn from them besides Kendrick and Rajon of course.

Newest Celtic Jermaine O'neal

Boston Free Agency plan was to acquire at least another big man in replacement of their starting center Kendrick Perkins.

via
The Boston Celtics officially signed Jermaine O'Neal on Wednesday.

"When the opportunity arose for me to join an organization like the Celtics, I could not refuse," said the 6-foot-11, 255-pound center. "I cannot wait to get to Boston and start to practice with the rest of the team in pursuit of a championship."

O'Neal says he's hungry for a ring and knows the Big Three and the remaining core from the 2008 title team are hungry for another, so that's why he chose Boston over other suitors.

"When he comes back, it's his position to have," O'Neal said. "I'm just here to do my job. I'm not trying to step on anybody's feet. I'm not trying to do anything to cause any issues. I'm here to win. That's just really what it boils down to.

"I probably wouldn't have wanted to back up anybody. But this situation is proven, and why come in and try to mess up something that's already proven?"

He, together with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, were the latest about Celtics free agency bonanza. Seems good enough roster to chase NBA Title, too early I guess.

Ray Allen inked again as a Celtic

Ray Allen will be a Celt again.

The deal is reported to be for $20 million dollars over two years with the second year being a player option. You have to assume that Allen took a hometown discount to stay here, as there are definitely teams out there willing to give him a third year.

Allen has said throughout the course of his time as a member of the Celtics that he wanted to stay in Boston and retire here. His maturity and professionalism over his successful career is truly something that you really don't see a whole lot of in sports anymore. Not only is Allen still a great player in this league, he is a great role model for younger players who might take what they have for granted- and there are many out there.

You can't deny Allen's work ethic- the man shows up three hours before every game and takes his pregame shots from all over the court. His body, even at age 34 (35 on July 20th), is still in possibly the best shape of his life. He prides himself on being the best conditioned body on the court at all times, and that is something that you can expect to see until he retires (and maybe after that too- he plans on running the Boston Marathon after he retires).

Seems the Boston Celtics wanted to go for another title shot using the original big three in the East and send back the school the most recent big three. To Ray Allen please don't shoot three you can catch and shoot the ball 15 feet away from the basket that makes you more efficient.

The new "Big Three" in the East?

Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade, and Lebron James were now officially playing for the Miami Heat. Forming the new big three in the East.

via

Ending weeks of will-he-or-won't-he speculation, the two-time MVP said Thursday night that he's decided to join the Heat and leave the Cavaliers after an unsuccessful seven-year quest for the ring he covets.

"I can't say it was always in my plans, because I never thought it was possible," James said on a made-for-LeBron live show on ESPN. "But the things that the Miami Heat franchise have done, to free up cap space and be able to put themselves in a position this summer to have all three of us, it was hard to turn down. Those are two great players, two of the greatest players that we have in this game today."

Olympic teammates in Beijing, James, Bosh and Wade all helped deliver the gold.

This time, it'll be about a gold trophy: the NBA championship Wade got in 2006; the one that James and Bosh have yet to touch.

"Winning is a huge thing for me," James said from a studio in Greenwich, Conn., where an audience of kids from the Boys and Girls Club was present for the announcement.

Hopefully it would be all about winning, so it will make the Cavs Owner more whining. Rhyme? \m/ And lets wait and see how they can play together.

Carlos "The Bull" Boozer NBA Free Agent 2010

Does the Chicago Bulls already knew that Lebron James will not pick them does why before the Lebronize "The Decision" they acquired Carlos Boozer as their consolation.

source

Carlos Boozer is the latest domino to fall in NBA free agency, agreeing to a five-year deal with the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.

The two-time All-Star forward is going to Chicago in a sign-and-trade with the Utah Jazz, giving the Bulls the dominant big man they've craved for years.

Shortly after Chicago announced the signing on Thursday, Jazz spokesman Jonathan Rinehart said Utah sent him along with a future protected second-round pick to the Bulls for a trade exception.

The deal gives the Jazz salary-cap flexibility while the Bulls get a major presence inside.

The Bulls did not disclose terms, but various sources told ESPN.com that the contract will be for between $75 million and $80 million.

STAT, you knew he will be a new Knick

After bringing the Phoenix Suns to Western Conference Finals against the Lakers, Amare Stoudemire was reportedly signing with the New York Knicks.

Source
A source tells Newsday the Knicks have a done deal with Amar'e Stoudemire. The deal is for five years and $100 million.

Let's see if the Knicks are really back.

Joe Johnson, A Hawk again.

Joe Johnson will be back at Atlanta with a max contract to inked.

via

Arn Tellem, Johnson's agent, said his client would be part of that effort. Tellem confirmed in a blog posting at the Huffington Post Web site Sunday that Johnson accepted Atlanta's offer of a six-year contract expected to be worth about $119 million.

All I can say is, that's a lot of money. Hawks fans you should expect a ring next season.

NBA Free Agents: Staying Home

Here are NBA Free Agents that agreed to multi-year deal with the one and only team except Joe Johnson but will likely to retire as Hawks

Dirk Nowitzki
via

Dirk Nowitzki sealed the deal on a new contract over the holiday weekend and will remain with the Dallas Mavericks. The Metroplex can take a deep breath and relax because the thought of losing Dirk would set the franchise back for several years. As the ink of the paper is drying on his new deal, let's go ahead and indulge in some Dirk-Love.

The deal for Dirk and Nowitzki

The biggest news to come out of his new contract is that Dirk turned down the maximum amount of money that could be offered to him. The contract could have maxed out at 4 years and 96 million dollars but he took 4 years at roughly 80 million dollars. Why would someone take less money? Because Nowitzki understands the Mavericks financial situation. Dallas is well over the salary cap and has luxury tax issues. The Mavericks are a sports organization, but it's still a business and that business carries a traditional budget. He understands that there is an internal budget Cuban has created and he can now use that extra 16 million dollars, over the next four years, and use it on assets to help make the Mavericks team better. Dirk understood that if he sacrificed his own money, it could help lead to the ultimate goal for Dirk and the franchise: an NBA title. In the modern-day sports world, stars hold out for extra money and demand a "me before team" lifestyle. Dirk is clearly an exception to the rule and shows that he gets "it."

A total unconditional sacrifice, it's not about the money.

As they say

Would you believe me If I blog that the US President has influence on the outcome of the NBA game 7.

via

“I’ve got to go with the Lakers again,” Obama said. “I think Gasol may be the best big man in the league right now. He’s different from Dwight Howard, but he’s [got] unbelievable footwork, speed, savvy, he’s playing magnificently.

“Kobe is the fiercest competitor in the league and they’ve got what I continue to believe is the best coach in the NBA right now in Phil Jackson, so they’re going to be formidable and I think it’ll be a tough series. Boston’s a veteran club, but the Lakers are looking pretty good.”

Just what like he said last year against Orlando.
source
"Lakers in six, I think," he said smiling.

Of course you don't believe me. Who am I? And watch out John Wall would be the top pick and Lebron James would be a Bull next season. That's is not a prediction. The President of the United States said that. NBA Commissioner David Stern couldn't afford to broke the President's heart. The NBA commissioner is a lucky guy right now.

Game 7

Was there really at stake for Paul Pierce when Celtics won or lost against the Lakers?

source

Paul Pierce’s Legacy Will Be Affected
Now this may sound a little hypocritical but Paul Pierce’s legacy IS affected by the outcome of tonight’s game. Yes, Pierce has already accomplished a lot in the NBA and is probably a Hall of Fame player. He’s probably going to get his jersey retired by the Celtics someday too. But winning a second title and being a multiple NBA championship winner makes a huge difference in how you’re remembered. Once you’ve won more than one title, it’s sort of just piling up the wins and accomplishments. But making that leap is huge for how you’re remembered and Pierce knows that.

He wants to be remembered as one of the best Celtics of all-time and rightfully so. He’s had a great career in Beantown. He probably hears the way the older fans talk about Hondo, Cousy, Cowens Russell, Bird, etc. and wants to be mentioned in that group. A second title goes a long way into putting him in that end of the memory bank. Pierce has been sensational over his career. People don’t realize just how good he is. For a five-year stretch, he wasn’t just an incredible offensive talent that made a ton of clutch shots but he was also a pretty savvy defender that held his own with guarding the elite scorers in the NBA. Pierce needs this second title more than Kobe needs his fifth.

If so, then Paul Pierce must be putting a lot of pressure on himself. His already thinking about his legacy when he's game still good enough (game 5). I guess its not a good idea. When you're good enough you just play basketball to win and bring home the 18th banner. If legacy was important to you don't worry the world will talk about it decades from now.

Against all odds into the game 7

NBA Finals heading will have game 7

via
“Well, I’ll allow you guys to enjoy that,” the Celtics coach deadpanned. “But it is here.”

Last night, the Game 4 heroes, the bench, didn’t score a point over the first three quarters despite the increased demand put on Glen Davis, the foul-ravaged Rasheed Wallace and Shelden Williams in Perkins’ absence.

The Celtics’ 67-point game was the lowest in team Finals history, and tied the 1999 Knicks for the second lowest in league Finals history. Their 31-point first half - also a team Finals record - fell one point shy of the league Finals low, held by three teams, including Houston from the Rockets’ 1981 elimination by the Celtics.

They also loss their starting center Kendrick Perkins after hurting his right knee.
source.
With 5:30 remaining in the first quarter of Game 6 of the 2010 NBA Finals, Celtics center Kendrick Perkins landed awkwardly and appeared to injure his right knee while battling for a rebound with Lakers center Andrew Bynum. He was examined by head trainer Eddie Lacerte, along with team physician Brian McKeon, before he was helped off the floor to the locker room by Shelden Williams and Brian Scalabrine. The injury itself, along with the severity of it, is still unknown.

Can Boston still closed it? Celtics fans let's hope that nba finals history
was not against us
, as long as the Big Three play well.

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

Closed it.

Celtics has prove me wrong about not getting the 18th banner. Now, they're up 3-2 on the series and the remaining games 6, 7 if necessary shifts to LA.

via
Paul Pierce showed signs of life in Game 4, and picked up right where he left off tonight. Pierce ended the night with 27 points, providing the offense that the Celtics needed from their captain.

"Paul was terrific," said Rivers. "He attacked all night. He did it through the offense, he did it through the [isolations], he did it in pick-and-rolls; he made big shots for us. He has great rhythm right now, and we need it."

One game and this series is over.

NBA Mock Draft. With the 19th pick Boston select

The Big three of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen will come to an end but hopefully not to soon. This coming draft should help them to prepare of the team's future. On the recent mock draft fantasy it's surprising that the Butler's main man Gordon Hayward was not selected while leading Butler NCAA Title run.

source
This season, I am making a mock draft by polling all of the other teams' fans on who their team should pick. The following is what I got so far from the great NBA fans of SBNation:

1. Washington Wizards- John Wall

2. Philadelphia 76ers- Evan Turner

3. New Jersey Nets- Derrick Favors

4. Minnesota Timberwolves- DeMarcus Cousins

5. Sacramento Kings- Wesley Johnson

6. Golden State Warriors- Al-Farouq Aminu

7. Detroit Pistons- Greg Monroe

8. Los Angeles Clippers- Paul George

9. Utah Jazz- Cole Aldrich

10. Indiana Pacers- Ekpe Udoh

11. New Orleans Hornets- Patrick Patterson

12. Memphis Grizzlies- Xavier Henry

13. Toronto Raptors- Daniel Orton

14. Houston Rockets- Hassan Whiteside

15. Milwaukee Bucks- Ed Davis

16. Minnesota Timberwolves- Luke Babbitt

17. Chicago Bulls- James Anderson

18. Miami Heat- Solomon Alabi

19. Boston Celtics- ???

The main reason if ever the Boston selected him on the first round will be his first-team mentality. That is if Doc Rivers stays as a coach next season.
